Aadhaar Verification for Hotels: Faster Check-ins, No Photocopies

Every hotel in India has the same pile at the front desk: photocopies of guest ID cards. They slow down check-in, they take up space, and they hold sensitive data that nobody wants to be responsible for. That is starting to change, and we are glad to be part of it.

Yanolja Cloud Solution (YCS) is now registered by UIDAI for Aadhaar verification. As far as we know, we are the first hotel PMS provider in India to get this registration. Here is what it means for your hotel.

What changes at your front desk

Instead of taking a photocopy, your team verifies the guest's Aadhaar from the guest's own phone. The guest shares a verified credential through the Aadhaar App, chooses what to share, and the details reach your system, digitally signed by UIDAI. No copy of the ID card is collected or stored.

Two ways to verify, both compliant

You can verify a guest online before they arrive, or in person at the desk. Both are compliant.

At the front desk (new, with our UIDAI registration)

  1. The hotel shows a QR code at the front desk.

  2. The guest scans it with the Aadhaar App and confirms with a quick face check on their phone.

  3. The guest chooses what to share, such as name, photo, age, and address.

  4. The verified details reach the hotel's system in seconds.

Online, before arrival (live today)

Guests complete pre-arrival check-in in the YCS AI Concierge guest portal and verify their Aadhaar through DigiLocker. Other adults in the booking can verify through a DigiLocker link sent on WhatsApp. When they walk in, the ID check is already done and check-in takes less time. More than 1 lakh (100,000) check-ins have already been completed this way.

Why both are compliant

Online, DigiLocker is the Government of India's digital document wallet, run by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Under Rule 9A of the Digital Locker rules, notified in February 2017, documents shared through DigiLocker are treated at par with the original. At the desk, the Aadhaar App uses UIDAI's offline verification under the Aadhaar Act and UIDAI's regulations, as amended in December 2025: the guest shares details that UIDAI has already digitally signed, and the check does not connect to UIDAI's central database. That is exactly what YCS is now registered for. (It is different from online Aadhaar authentication by OTP or biometrics, which needs a separate licence.)

Whichever way the guest verifies:

  • Consent is asked every time. Nothing is shared unless the guest agrees.

  • With the Aadhaar App, the guest chooses what to share. The hotel gets only what it needs.

  • With the Aadhaar App, the full Aadhaar number is never shared. The hotel can receive at most the last four digits.

  • No photocopy is collected. The hotel keeps a verified record, not a copy of the card.

What your hotel gains

For your team: faster check-ins at busy hours, less paperwork, fewer errors from typing guest details by hand, and no files of ID photocopies to store and protect.

For your guests: a quicker arrival, more privacy, and the option to verify before they even reach the hotel.

Why it matters now

On 30 April 2026, UIDAI recognised Aadhaar Verifiable Credentials from the Aadhaar App as legally valid proof of identity. On 12 June 2026, FHRAI advised its member hotels to use the app-based route at check-in. By August 2026, the Aadhaar App had crossed 5 crore downloads and more than 200 organisations had registered as OVSEs.

The rule that every guest must be verified has not changed. What is changing is how. Guests can still use a passport, driving licence, voter ID or any other accepted ID. But for the millions of Indian travellers who carry Aadhaar on their phone, check-in can get much quicker.

Questions hotels and guests ask

Is Aadhaar mandatory for hotel check-in?

No. Hotels must verify every guest, but guests can still use a passport, driving licence, voter ID or any other valid photo ID the hotel accepts.

Does "offline verification" mean the guest needs to be offline?

No. It only means the check does not connect to UIDAI's central database. Guests can also verify online before arrival through DigiLocker.

Will the hotel see my full Aadhaar number?

No. Through the Aadhaar App, the hotel can receive at most the last four digits, along with the details you agree to share.

Can hotels keep photocopies of Aadhaar cards?

UIDAI wants businesses to move away from photocopies and use approved digital checks instead. Hotels should avoid keeping full, unmasked copies.

What does a hotel need to get started?

Aadhaar verification has to follow UIDAI's rules. Our team will guide you on what applies to your property.

What hotels can do today

  1. Stop keeping photocopies of guest Aadhaar cards wherever you can avoid it.

  2. Read UIDAI's OVSE page to understand the rules: uidai.gov.in/ovse

  3. Book a demo to get early access to Aadhaar verification: yanoljacloudsolution.com/book-a-demo. Already a YCS customer? Talk to your account manager.

We will share more as it rolls out.
